Media Literacy for Parents

I think it’s extremely important for students to understand the technology that they are using. Additionally, I think it’s just as important for parents to understand the technology that their children are using. Parents need to model the best behavior and ask appropriate questions about the media and technology that is being used. For two years now I have been running a series of workshops for parents that provide information and training on various media and technology. I have discussed many topics such as blocking websites, securing wireless network, violent video games, social networking and many others.

I’ve done three workshops and each can be found on my wiki – http://mdlmedia.wikispaces.com/

On these pages there are tons of resources and the topics that I cover in depth.  I’m always looking for new ideas…like this one
